Kia ora and welcome to our July/August 2006 issue of e-Newz! Summer is here and many members will be heading home or to foreign shores for some welled earned rest and a chance to recharge the batteries. For those of us left in Hong Kong, our thoughts turn to how to keep the kids amused for the summer and/or simply how to keep cool in the oppressive heat and humidity. In this issue of E-Newz, we provide some interesting reading and some suggestions on how to spend your summer break.
The Government has settled a landmark Treaty of Waitangi claim relating to parts of central Auckland. Ngati Whatua o Orakei Maori Trust Board signed on June 9. 2006 an agreement in principle with the Crown that will give them $10 million and stewardship rights to several Auckland city public reserves.

If your answer to these questions is a strident “YES!” then you’ll be interested to read that New Zealand ranks ninth among 34 democracies in the “Patriotism Survey” by the National Opinion Research Centre at the University of Chicago.
