A mighty kauri has fallen as Maori Queen Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangi-kaahu succumbs to failing health. Dame Te Ata will always be remembered for her strong leadership, compassion and dedication to promoting Maori culture in the 40 years she has been on the throne. The NZSHK joins the whole nation in paying tribute to one of Maoridom's most respected leaders.

As Tuheitia Paki assumes leadership of the Maoridom, the seventh Maori monarch is allowed to grieve the death of his mother Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu, before performing formal duties for the Kingitanga movement. As the New King of Maoridom, Tuheitia Paki is seen as a man of the people and an advocate for Maori traditions. |
