NZSHK makes HK$10,000 Donation to Australian Bush Fires Appeal Fund

Dear Members,

I wish to let you know that the NZSHK Committee, on your behalf, has today 12th February 2009 made a donation of HK$10,000 to the Australian Bush Fires Appeal Fund. The amount matches the donation made by the Australian Association.

Details of the NZSHK’s donation were conveyed in a message of sympathy and support sent to the  Australian Association of Hong Kong and the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and copied to the Consulate-Generals of Australia and New Zealand.

In response to our donation, we have received the following messages of thanks:

From Carolyn Bikerton, President of the Australian Association of Hong Kong -

“On behalf of the Australian Association may I say a huge thank you to the New Zealand Society and its members for this very generous donation.   I have no doubt that it will be put to good use in Victoria.

In addition to the regularly scheduled events doing fund raising for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, we are in the process of arranging a community wide event.  I will ensure more on this is forwarded to you when it becomes available

Your support at this time is greatly appreciated.”

“I have passed your kind note and thoughts to our Board of Directors and I will mention this generous donation to the membership at large.
Also copied on this email is Clement Chan, AustCham’s Chairman.

We will be running a number of events that have a fund raising component over the next two months and so will keep you informed of them in case your members would like to attend.

“What a thoughtful and generous donation from the NZSHK.  Its great to see the support between A/NZ when disaster strikes.  The NZ Government has offered 100 firefighters and some other services as well as $500,000 to kick start a Red Cross appeal in NZ (by the end of 11 Feb it had received $400,000 from the NZ public).”
